That means we are familiar with a broad range of things that can go wrong with each. We've used that knowledge to prepare a list of dos & don'ts that will ensure you get the most out of your mobile and avoid some common pitfalls.
Insurance - Vodafone and 3 offer handset Insurance to cover your handset if it gets accidentally damaged, lost or stolen. You can only purchase Vodafone's Cover me Insurance at the time you purchase your handset. If you didn't get insurance, we suggest you speak to your existing insurance provider
Buy a case - as most of us know, it's easy to drop a phone or scuff it (especially when it's in your pocket or bag with sharp objects like keys. Buying a case will not only protect your handset from damage, but also ensure it avoids scratching
Power Cycle your handset - your handset is like a mini computer. Sometimes you may experience a few issues, which can be easily remedied by Power Cycling your handset. It's like rebooting your PC, and allows the circuits to clear themselves and start fresh
Software Upgrade - If you experience ongoing issues like freezing or the device turning off, you can update the software yourself. This will avoid being separated from your handset unnecessarily. There are some step by step instructions in our software section to help you do this
Treat it with care - sounds obvious, doesn't it? But being careful where you place your phone - in a pocket without coins or keys for example - will extend the life, aesthetic appeal and possibly the resale value of your phone. When you consider that some handsets are worth nearly as much as a laptop, it makes sense to treat your investment carefully!
Extreme temperatures - don't expose your handset to extreme temperature changes. This can cause liquid ingression, which is not covered under warranty.
Liquids & moisture - keep your handset way from any liquids or moisture as this can also cause liquid ingression
Don't put it in your mouth - perhaps not you, but some babies and pet dogs like to put them in their mouths, which again can cause liquid ingression
Steam & spray - keep your phone out of the bathroom as steam or spray splashes can cause liquid ingression in your handset
Rain and snow - keep your handset under cover when it's raining. It's best to protect it in a dry bag and use a hands free kit to make calls. Beware if your handset is in a wet trouser pocket, it may still get saturated.
Wet hands, hair or sweat - all these can contribute to liquid ingression through the earpiece, microphone or charging port. Try to use a hands free kit and ensure your hands are dry.
Direct sunlight - don't leave your phone out in the sun or in direct sunlight for extended periods of time
Liquid spills - a common cause of liquid ingression is due to a spill on a table. This can be at a work desk, dining table or bar area. Try to avoid placing your handset level on a table surface where liquids are present.
We have mentioned the term 'Liquid Ingression' a few times and the fact that this is not covered under Warranty. To find out more about the causes and what 'Liquid Ingression' is, have a look at our page
