Heard the term ‘fibre upgrade’ floating around lately? If not, that’s alright. Consider this your go-to guide on what a fibre upgrade is, and most importantly, the benefits it brings to your small business!
So, what is a fibre upgrade?
Australia’s National Broadband Network (otherwise known as the nbn®), released a fibre upgrade program with an aim to provide more Australian homes with a faster, and more reliable, internet connection.
To put it simply, a fibre upgrade means upgrading specific nbn® Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) setups to nbn® Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) internet connections.
By upgrading to full fibre, more small business owners and their employees will be able to work from homes and offices with a faster, more reliable connection than ever before.
At Vodafone, we're backing the power of small business, and we’re excited to enhance the internet experience for our business customers. The perks of the program are unmatched, including our $0 standard installation offer.
First up, let’s clarify the different options of nbn® internet technology:
• Fibre to the Node (FTTN): refers to an internet connection which utilises existing copper network cabling and fibre-optic cables. Fibre-optic cables connect to a central location, known as a ‘node.’ From that location - typically located at the end of a street or in the middle of several streets - the existing copper wire completes the remaining distance to your premises.
• Fibre to the Curb (FTTC): refers to an internet connection brought to life through a mixture of fibre and copper cabling. Fibre cabling finishes at the curb, with copper wiring completing the connection from curb to your location.
• Fibre to the Premises (FTTP): refers to full fibre-optic cables connected all the way your premises. This internet technology is optimised for both business and residential applications (if your business is based at home) and it’s the internet connection offered through Vodafone’s $0 fibre upgrade https://www.vodafone.com.au/business/fibre-upgrade.
Wondering why you should upgrade?
1. Faster, more reliable internet
Experience better video calls, faster downloads, and reduced internet dropouts during those all-important online work meetings**.
2. Enhanced online experiences to boost your business’ digital capabilities
Bid farewell to long lags! FTTP means lower latency and faster response times, a must for virtual work presentations. It’s not just business as usual. It’s business made better!
3. Future-proofing your business
There’s a growing demand for fast, reliable internet connectivity in the home office. With many small businesses and employees alike working from home, a faster, more reliable internet connection is more than just a ‘nice to have.’ FTTP is the internet technology that aims to meet the demand for more people and more devices to be connected to faster, more reliable internet**.
**when compared to a FTTN/C connection.
Your important questions, answered:
Is it really a $0 install?
For many offices, homes and other locations who only need a standard installation, a fibre upgrade installation won't cost a thing! However, nbn® might add fees for not-so-regular setups (called “complex” installations). Don’t worry, we’ll keep you informed throughout the whole process.
What equipment is installed for a fibre upgrade?
To get your FTTP connection working, an NBN technician installs an nbn® utility box (also referred to as a Premises Connection Device or PCD) outside your business premises, and an nbn® connection box (also referred to as a Network Termination Device or NTD) inside your premises. This is where you’ll plug in your modem for faster connectivity.
Do I need a new modem?
When you sign up to an eligible Vodafone business nbn® plan to receive the $0 fibre upgrade offer, we include a high-speed nbn® modem with 4G back up on the Vodafone network. The modem’s all yours for $0 when you stay connected with Vodafone for 24 months.
Want to secure your $0 fibre upgrade with Vodafone?
