Throttled (slower) data speeds explained

If you use all your included monthly data, you can keep using data at speeds of up to 2Mbps. 

What you can do at 2Mbps

2Mbps is great for browsing, social media and streaming music but is not suitable for HD video. Here’s a guide to what you can do at 2Mbps. However, these are “up to” speeds — so your experience will continually vary depending on many factors such as device capabilities, location, network congestion and network coverage.

Can I bring my current number across to Vodafone?

Yes. Once you’ve signed up to a plan, fill out our Customer Authorisation Form so that we can bring your current number across to us.

Can I bring my own 5G device?

You can bring your own compatible 5G device to Vodafone to use with a SIM Only Plan. If you purchased a 5G device from another provider, you may not have access to our full 5G coverage. Check out our approved devices to see which have been tested and optimised for use on Vodafone’s network.

Can I contact emergency services using a BYO device?

Yes, you can contact emergency services using a Vodafone approved device.

Using a device other than an approved Vodafone device may impact your ability to call emergency services.

Can I use my eSIM enabled phone with a SIM Only plan?

Yes, you can use your eSIM enabled phone with our SIM Only plans.

An eSIM, as opposed to a physical SIM, is a SIM that’s already embedded into selected mobile phones and tablets and allows you to use up to 5 different plans on the same device.

For example, you’ll be able to use one plan for business and another plan for personal use. For more on how to manage your eSIM, check out our support page.

Can I save if I have multiple plans under one account?

Yes. You can bundle eligible plans under one account and save from 5% to 20% on plan fees. T&C apply.

What is a SIM Only Plan?

Also known as BYO plans, our SIM Only Plans are perfect if you already have your own phone. The plans come with heaps of data to use in Australia, unlimited standard national calls and text, and selected plans come with standard international call minutes.

With a SIM Only Plan, you’ll only be paying for your plan cost each month without any device repayment fees.

Can I share data from my Vodafone Infinite Plans with other Vodafone plans?

Yes. Data sharing is available with up to 10 services and only the included data is shareable with other Vodafone Infinite (excluding Ultra+ Plan), Vodafone BYOD plans or Plus Plans. Excludes data capped at speeds up to 1.5, 2, 10 or 25Mbps. Data is for use in Australia. T&C apply.

Can I hotspot or tether from my phone to other devices?

Yes, you can hotspot or tether from your phone to other devices. However, hotspotting or tethering isn’t intended to be used as a substitute for home internet. 

A hotspot is a Wi-Fi connection that you access to connect to the internet on your phone, tablet, computer or other compatible device. Tethering is when you use your device’s mobile data to connect a phone, tablet, computer or other compatible device to the internet via Wi-Fi or a USB cable.

What is personal use?

Personal use means you can use the data on your own mobile phone, and to other devices personal to you, such as your own tablet. It excludes using your mobile phone’s data on the devices of members of your household or friends or colleagues.

Double Data
Bonus data available to (i) approved new customers signing up to an eligible Vodafone Infinite: Small or Small SIM Only Plan; Medium or Medium SIM Only Plan; Large or Large SIM Only Plan and Extra Large Promo Plans  (‘Eligible Plan’); (ii) approved existing customers adding an additional Eligible Plan to their account and (iii) approved existing customers upgrading their handset and signing up to an Eligible Plan via In-store or Customer Care channels only (‘Eligible Customers’). Offer available from 30/01/2025 and is available until withdrawn (‘Promotional Period’). Bonus data on Eligible Plan(s) include: Bonus 50GB (total 100GB of monthly data) on Small and Small SIM Only Plan; bonus 180GB (total 360GB of monthly data) on Medium and Medium SIM Only Plan; or bonus 360GB (total 720GB of monthly data) on Large and Large SIM Only Plan; and bonus 450GB (total 900GB of monthly data) on Extra Large Promo plans. Bonus data will be applied monthly for the duration you remain continuously connected to the Eligible Plan and is forfeited if you cancel, change or upgrade your Eligible Plan.  This offer can be used in conjunction with Bundle and Save, handset discounts, plan fee discounts, and trade-in offers but cannot be used with any other promotional offer. Offer not transferrable or redeemable for cash and is subject to change.

$10 off SIM Only Plan
Plan fee discount is available to (i) approved new customers signing up to an eligible Vodafone Infinite Plan: Small SIM Only Plan, Medium SIM Only Plan, and Large SIM Only Plan (‘Eligible Plan’); and (ii) approved existing customers adding an additional Eligible Plan to their account (‘Eligible Customers’). Offer available from 30/01/2025 and is available until withdrawn (‘Promotional Period’). Discount for Eligible Plan(s) include: $10/mth off the minimum monthly spend (“Plan Fees”) on Small SIM Only Plan, Medium SIM Only Plan, and Large SIM Only Plan (Discount). For customers with a SIM Only plan, Discount is applied for your first 12 months ("Discount Term"). Discount is applied as a recurring monthly credit for the Discount Term and on Plan Fees only.  At the end of the Discount Term, the Discounted Plan Fees will revert to the undiscounted Plan Fees. Discount is forfeited if you cancel, change or upgrade your Eligible Plan. This offer can be used in conjunction with Bundle and Save, handset discounts, bonus data, and trade-in offers, but cannot be used with any other promotional offer. Offer not transferrable or redeemable for cash and is subject to change.

Data on Vodafone Infinite Plans
No excess data charges in Australia. All data for use in Australia within the Vodafone Network coverage area. Vodafone Infinite Plans include an included data allowance (which is data at the fastest speed the Vodafone network can deliver to you, depending on your handset and the time and place you are using data) which will be used first; thereafter data is available at speeds of up to 2Mbps until your next billing month. With 2Mbps you can check your socials, browse the web and stream music but is not suitable for HD video. For more information, check out our speed guide. Tethering is permitted from your mobile phone to your other personal devices only, but must not be used in a modem or as a substitute for a home internet service. Heavy data users may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods. Actual speeds you reach will continually vary depending on many factors such as device capabilities, location, network congestion, network coverage, if you are roaming and if you are a heavy data user. Fair Use Policy applies.

Bundle & Save
Bundle & Save discounts are available to (a) new customers who connect two or more Eligible Plans on the same billing account; OR (b) existing customers with an Eligible Plan who: add one or more eligible services to their billing account or who upgrade or switch an ineligible Plan to an Eligible Plan; OR (c) existing customers who have two Eligible Plans.

Eligible Plans are: All Postpaid voice plans of $30 and above released on or after July 25 2018 (excluding Assured Plan, Business Flex Plans, BYOD Plans, Extra Large Plans, Large Promo and Extra Large Promo Plans); Tablet Plans of $30 and above released on or after June 27 2018; Modem Plans of $20 and above released on or after July 2 2020; Vodafone Infinite Data Plans of $20 and above. Excludes nbn™ Plans, 4G Home Internet Plans and 5G Home Internet Plans.

Customers will receive a percentage discount off each Eligible Plan’s access fees (5% off two plans, 10% off three plans, 15% off four plans or 20% off five or more plans) when active on a single billing account. Note MPP, APP or Add-On fees are not discounted. The Bundle & Save discount is calculated from the first full bill cycle and updated monthly as eligible services are added or removed. Any second service discounts are replaced by the applicable Bundle & Save discount. If early exit fees apply to an Eligible Plan they are calculated using the undiscounted amount x months remaining. Sharing Data
If you have more than one Vodafone Infinite (excluding Ultra+ Plans), Vodafone BYOD, Plus, Team, Extra Large Plan, Vodafone Large Promo, Vodafone Extra Large Promo Plan or Vodafone Infinite Data Plans on your billing account, the included data allowances on those services will automatically combine into one pool which will be shared between eligible users. Data capped at speeds up to 1.5, 2, 10 or 25Mbps is not shareable. Data sharing is only available for up to 10 services. The data included in any other plan on your account which is not a Vodafone Infinite (excluding Ultra+ Plan), Vodafone BYOD, Plus, Team, Extra Large Plan, Vodafone Large Promo, Vodafone Extra Large Promo Plan or Vodafone Infinite Plan is not shareable with Vodafone Infinite (excluding Ultra+ Plan), Vodafone BYOD, Plus, Team, Extra Large Plan, Vodafone Large Promo, Vodafone Extra Large Promo Plan or Vodafone Infinite Data Plans and vice versa. You can find out which plans support sharing or you can opt-out of sharing altogether at any time by calling 1555.

Network Satisfaction Guarantee
If you’re a new customer and you’ve signed up to any new postpaid mobile, mobile broadband or Home Internet plan and you don't love our network within the first 30 days of sign-up, or in the case of a Vodafone nbn® or Vision plan within the first 30 days of service activation, you’re welcome to cancel by calling 1300 551 198 (excludes upgrades and rate plan changes). You will only have to pay for those services you’ve used or for charges incurred, that are not included in your plan, up until your number or nbn® or Vision service is fully transferred and return your device or modem and equipment in original packaging with proof of purchase returned to a Vodafone (not dealer) store within 10 days of your claim. Where you have an individual plan, you can make one claim per year per person. Where you have multiple shared plans on your account, you can make one claim in relation to each plan, for up to 10 claims per account, per year per person. Accessories not refunded. This guarantee does not affect any other rights or remedies you may have under consumer law. Full terms and conditions on our network page.

$5 Roaming
Use your included data, call and text allowances in Eligible Destinations and in-flight on eligible partner airlines for an additional $5 per day. However data capped at speeds up to 1.5, 2, 10 or 25Mbps is not accessible while $5 Roaming. Eligible Destinations and eligible partner airlines are subject to change, see current list and full details here . Available to eligible customers, see terms for details specific to your plan. $5 Daily Charge is in addition to minimum monthly spend. Once your included data is exhausted, additional data will be automatically added at a charge of $5/GB ($0.005/MB) (“Additional Roaming Data”). Additional Roaming Data expires at the end of your next billing period, is shareable (excludes plans with unlimited data which do not share data) and can only be used while in Eligible Destinations and in-flight on eligible partner airlines. Max 90 days of use in any calendar year. Opt-out at any time, visit My Vodafone or call 1555. All roaming services are subject to network availability.

4G
You can use Vodafone 4G in our 4G areas. 4G in selected areas in Australia. Check your device is compatible to the coverage areas you will use. Actual speeds vary due to things like device capability, location & network congestion. See our coverage checker.

5G
Vodafone’s 5G Network is progressively being rolled out to selected parts of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth. 5G approved device required, with an eligible Vodafone plan, in a Vodafone 5G Coverage area to access the 5G Network. In non-5G coverage areas, you’ll automatically switch to our 4G networks. Actual speeds vary due to location & network congestion. Vodafone Infinite SIM Only Plans
For personal use by approved customers only. You must supply your own handset in order to sign up to this plan – you cannot purchase a phone from Vodafone on instalments with this plan. Inclusions expire after 1 month unless otherwise stated. Plan excludes Premium Services, 1223, & 1225 directory services, 123 Ask-Us-Anything, International Roaming, content purchases, call screen and charges for additional data and additional standard international calls. 

Minimum monthly spend is $49, 59 or $69. Total minimum cost is one month of your monthly plan fees. Must connect for minimum one month. Recurring monthly plan fee charged until the end of the month in which you notify that you wish to cancel.

International minutes
Zone 1 and Zone 2 destinations may change, see international calls for list of current destinations. Calls charged in per minute increments. Excludes non-standard calls and video calls.

If you exhaust your Zone 2 allowance or you make a call to a destination outside the Zone 1 or 2 included destinations, you will be charged on top of your minimum monthly spend at our standard international Pay-As-You-Go rates. These rates are subject to change, see the current rates here. Fair Use Policy applies, which can be found within Vodafone’s Standard Form of Agreement.
