Typical Evening Upload Speed is estimated by reference to the maximum upload speed and is not a guaranteed minimum speed. Actual speeds for FTTB/N/C services to be confirmed. 4G Back-up
Using the TP-Link VX420-G2H you can access our mobile network while you wait for Vodafone nbn® to be installed/activated and power on through interruptions with 4G Back-up. Max speeds apply. T&C apply.
Month to month plans
All Vodafone nbn® plans are month to month, so you can change or cancel your plan to suit your needs at any time without paying a fee. If you have a plan with a Vodafone TP-Link VX420-G2H, simply pay out your modem when you leave on your next bill.
The nbn® network refers to the ongoing upgrade of Australia’s current phone and internet infrastructure by the corporation nbn co limited, otherwise known as nbn®.
A fibre upgrade is a Fibre-To-The-Premises (FTTP) technology upgrade from nbn®. Having an FTTP connection will mean that fibre will be connected all the way to your home – it's the best nbn® option available in Australia. Find out more on our support page.
A standard installation is free if you’re eligible for the upgrade and on an eligible plan. nbn co limited may charge you an additional fee to proceed with non-standard installation.
All TP-Link VX420-G2H and Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ modems will work with an upgraded fibre connection.
If you already have an nbn® compatible modem, you don’t have to get a new modem. If you have a different BYO modem, it may work if it is less than 3 years old.
If you’re using an older modem, like the Vodafone Wi-Fi HubTM 1.0, you will need to connect via the modem’s 5Ghz Wi-Fi connection. The Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub 1.0 only supports up to 100Mbps via ethernet.
Upgrading to nbn’s Full Fibre typically takes 2–6 weeks, but it can take longer for more complicated installations. During this time, if you’re not already an nbn® customer with us, we’ll set you up with an nbn® Interim Plan so you can get connected quicker. Your old service and new service will overlap for 6 days to avoid any issues, but once your upgrade is complete, we’ll automatically switch you over and reimburse you for the 6-day overlap.
You’ll need the landlord’s permission to upgrade to nbn’s Full Fibre at their premises as it requires work to the property to set up the connection, such as drilling into walls. Contact your landlord or property manager to get written approval to proceed with the upgrade.
nbn® will install new equipment inside and outside your premises to complete the upgrade. We will help arrange a time for the installation and update you via SMS.
An nbn® installer will assess the exterior of your property to identify any potential obstacles and prepare for your installation appointment. This visit typically takes between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. However, more complex connections may require additional time.
An nbn® installer will install the necessary equipment and will need access to both the interior and exterior of your property. This appointment generally takes 3 to 4 hours but may take longer for more complex connections. Depending on your specific installation, there may be some noisy works or temporary service interruptions during the installation. In some cases, you’ll also need an initial appointment first. This will be determined by nbn®.
Once the installation is complete, plug your modem from the old connection into the new FTTP connection. After a few moments, your internet will be ready to use.
Yes, if the location you’re moving to is eligible for the upgrade. You can check your new address in our address checker above and see whether the fibre upgrade is available.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you'll get the speeds of the next highest nbn® plan available at no extra cost.
Eligibility is subject to technology and line speed capability at your address.
You can keep your landline phone number with our Vodafone Mobile Landline service for $5 a month.
We don’t offer a home phone line with Vodafone nbn®. If you currently have a home phone line, it may be disconnected when Vodafone nbn® is installed, depending on the technology type. If it’s disconnected, you’ll lose any services associated it.
Devices that use home phone lines
Existing technologies or devices that use your home phone line service may not be compatible with Vodafone nbn® and may no longer work after installation. These include but are not limited to:
Check with the manufacturer to see if your device is compatible on Vodafone nbn®. For more information on device compatibility, check out the nbn co website.
Priority Assistance
Since Vodafone nbn® does not come with a home phone line, we are unable to offer Priority Assistance.
Priority Assistance is a service designed to help Australians who have, or live with someone who has a diagnosed life-threatening medical condition, and whose life may be at risk without access to a fully operational phone service.
For more information, check out the Australian Communications and Media Authority website.
If you have an email address with your current provider, check with them whether you can keep the email when you sign up to Vodafone nbn®.
If you have a pay TV subscription or other services bundled with your current provider, check with them about unbundling the services.

Here are the next steps to connect to the nbn®.
Receive modem
If you signed up to a plan with a modem, we’ll send you the TP-Link VX420-G2H with free next day delivery on orders approved by 12pm weekdays.
Connect to 4G
With the TP-Link VX420-G2H, you can connect to our mobile network from day one with 4G Back-up. Check your mobile network coverage.
nbn installation
Depending on your nbn® technology type, we may contact you about installation.
Connect to nbn®
You'll automatically come off 4G Back-up and connect to the nbn® network. If you need help, check out our guide.
Your existing phone and internet services may no longer work once nbn® has been available in your area for 18 months. To continue using Fixed Broadbrand and voice services, most people will need to move to the nbn® network.
Individuals and businesses are not automatically switched over to the nbn® network and will need to get in touch with a phone or internet provider like Vodafone to make the change.
For large or multi-storey houses, we recommend two or more Mesh Wi-Fi units, which are wireless router nodes that create a blanket of coverage across your home. Simply add them to your monthly home internet bill through our Accessories Payment Plan. T&C apply.
Accessories Payment Plan (Mesh Wi-Fi)
To apply for an Accessories Payment Plan you’ll need to be an approved new or existing Vodafone postpaid customer and must agree to a credit check. Accessories Payment Plan (APP) enables eligible Vodafone postpaid customers to buy accessories and pay for them in instalments over 12, 24 or 36 months (Period). Your accessory price is spread in equal instalments over the Period (APP Instalments). Your APP Instalments will appear on your monthly bill. Under the APP, you own the accessories; you must pay your APP Instalments at the same time and in the same way as you pay for your Vodafone service even if your APP accessories are lost, damaged or stolen. Your APP spend can range from $30 up to your credit approval limit. If during your APP commitment Period you cancel your APP or postpaid plan, the balance of your APP Instalments is payable. You can pay the remainder of your APP and terminate your APP at any time by contacting us. We will notify you of the amount you need to pay to satisfy the remainder of your APP total amount and will be displayed on you next bill. Once we receive your payment for this amount in cleared funds, your APP will be terminated and you will not be required to pay any further APP Instalments. You can have a max of 5 APP per postpaid plan. Each APP can have up to 10 accessories. Not available online.
TP-Link VX420-G2H
TP-Link VX420-G2H utilises Wi-Fi 6 technology and in comparison to Wi-Fi 5 is capable of supporting up to four times as many Wi-Fi enabled devices. Wi-Fi 6 is the next generation of Wi-Fi.
Vodafone 4G Backup
Vodafone 4G Back-up is a complimentary service for 4G Backup nbn® plans only that provides an interim internet connection using the Vodafone 4G network in Vodafone Coverage Areas only. It is only available using the TP-Link VX420-G2H and Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ (“Modem”) with a Vodafone SIM on our network. 4G Back-up is available from when you receive your Modem until your nbn® service is fully activated or for a period of 30 consecutive days (whichever occurs first). This service will also be automatically activated if you lose connection to Vodafone nbn® during confirmed local nbn® faults. This excludes mass nbn® outages. You will be able to use the Backup service until the fault is resolved or for a period of 30 consecutive days (whichever occurs first). Service performance varies depending on network coverage and your location with speeds likely less than the maximum. Our Fair Use Policy applies.
Installation
The process for installation of Vodafone nbn® will vary depending on the nbn® service type available at your premises. We will inform you of the process for installation at your premises when you sign-up. If you require installation by an nbn® technician they will need access to your home and someone aged 18+ must be home. If you do not own the property, you must obtain consent from the owner in order to have Vodafone nbn® installed. You are responsible for setting up your TP-Link VX420-G2H and your Wi-Fi network.

The total maximum cost of the Modem is $180. There is no option to purchase the Modem outright or on a monthly payment plan. The Modem cost equates to $7.50 per month (‘Undiscounted Price’) over 24 months or $0 per month (‘Discounted Price’) if you stay connected for 24 months (‘Device Period’). The Discounted Price will appear as a credit on your monthly bill. If you choose to cancel your plan before the end of the Device Period you will need to pay the full Undiscounted Price x months remaining on Device Period. This remaining Modem cost will be applied as a lump sum on your final bill. You must connect for a minimum of one month. Recurring monthly plan fee charged until the end of the month in which you cancel. Minimum monthly spend is $60. Total minimum cost is one-month plan fees plus total modem cost. No Early Exit Fee if you choose to cancel your Plan, but 100% of the remaining device instalments will be applied to your next bill.
The TP-Link VX420-G2H Modem can operate with a maximum of 128 compatible WiFi enabled devices at any one time.
The Plan uses our 4G Vodafone Network and may be subject to data de-prioritisation. Data de-prioritisation means that during peak periods or congestion some data traffic will receive less priority over other traffic on the Vodafone Network, and we may manage the Vodafone Network by de-prioritising your service. This could mean that during periods of congestion you may experience slower speeds than 15Mbps, and the speeds experienced may be different to the speeds experienced using our other services.
All data for use in Australia within the Vodafone Network coverage area. Service subject to 4G coverage availability. The Plan has a maximum speed of 20Mbps (download) and 2Mbps (upload) and a Typical Evening Speed of 15Mbps (download) and 2Mbps (upload). Typical Evening Speeds are subject to change and measured between 7-11 pm. They are not guaranteed speeds and you may experience slower speeds than this during busy periods and at other times.
Actual speeds you reach will continually vary depending on many factors such as de-prioritisation, network congestion, the number of devices connected and their capabilities, network coverage and the time you are using data. This plan is suitable for browsing, emails, social media, streaming music, SD and HD video. It is not suitable for 4K streaming and may not be suitable for online gaming. It is suitable for 1-3 users. See our Speed Guide for more detail. Fair Use Policy applies. Plan is not eligible for roaming. You cannot share the data between your Plan and your Vodafone postpaid mobile plan and vice versa. You can find out which plans support sharing or you can opt-out of sharing altogether at any time by calling 1555. Plan is for use at your Approved Address only and may no longer work if you move to another location. You will need to contact us to check service and network availability at the new location and notify us if you wish to set up your service at your new location.
You don’t have to bundle this service. Existing Postpaid Mobile Customer Price is available to existing customers (i) with an existing Postpaid Mobile service (excludes MBB), (ii) who add any Vodafone 4G or 5G Home Internet Plan on the same account (‘Eligible Plan’) and (iii) remain connected to both services. To receive the Existing Postpaid Mobile Customer Price your Postpaid Mobile plan and your Eligible Plan must have the same billing name and billing address. If you cancel your Postpaid Mobile plan or Eligible Plan the discount will be forfeited and you will pay the Stand-alone Price. Discount only applicable on one Eligible Plan. Standalone Price means the undiscounted Minimum Monthly Spend of the Eligible Plan.
Vodafone nbn® plans
For personal use by approved customers only. Subject to service qualification check. Vodafone nbn® is a data-only service and is not compatible with your home phone line service meaning you may no longer be able to use your landline (or existing phone number) for calls after you sign-up. Vodafone nbn® service may also impact or interfere with existing technology, devices or services at your premises including medical devices, alarms, eftpos machines, lift emergency phones and some email or fax services. You cannot share the data between your Vodafone nbn® plan and your Vodafone postpaid mobile plan and vice versa. You can find out which plans support sharing or you can opt-out of sharing altogether at any time by calling 1555. Additional fees may apply for nbn® installation or appointments.
The total maximum cost of the TP-Link VX420-G2H modem (‘Modem’) is $180. For example, if you leave at month 18 you would pay $7.50 x 6 (number of remaining months), at a total of $45. This remaining Modem cost will be applied as a lump sum on your final bill. You must connect for a minimum of one month. Recurring monthly plan fees are charged until the end of the month in which you notify that you wish to cancel. You will be charged for using your plan from the point of nbn® activation at your premises.
Total minimum cost excludes any additional costs for call outs when there is a missed appointment or where no fault is found or the $300 New Development Charge that is triggered when you live in a new development.

It is not a guaranteed minimum speed and you may experience lower speeds during this period. The actual speeds you experience will vary on a number of factors such as the nbn® technology used to deliver your service, plan choice, location, internet traffic demand, our network, line condition, the number of devices connected to your network, modem type and positioning, Wi-Fi performance, in-building wiring, and the content you access.

The Plan uses the Vodafone Network and may be subject to data de-prioritisation.
