Vodafone 4G+ puts customers in fast lane
Another step towards faster data speeds, more reliability
Vodafone customers can expect faster and more reliable mobile data services with the company today announcing the deployment of 850-1800 MHz carrier aggregation across its 4G metropolitan network has been completed.
Chief Technology Officer Benoit Hanssen said carrier aggregation would support Vodafone’s 4G network, which reaches 95% of the metropolitan population and several major regional centres, to meet the rapidly growing demand for data.
“Carrier aggregation is a key feature of LTE-Advanced, or 4G+. By combining the existing low-band (850 MHz) and high-band (1800 MHz) 4G networks, we are able to boost the network’s performance and customer experience,” Mr Hanssen said.
“Whether it’s at university, work, home or while out and about, mobile customers want data and they want their data speeds to be fast and reliable.
“With more than 50% of Vodafone customers now using 4G, demand is huge and growing – 4G data consumption on our network more than doubled last year.
“More than 50% of our data traffic is carried over 4G and through carrier aggregation we can provide those customers who have compatible devices with more reliable access to fast downloads and uploads.”
Mr Hanssen said customers with compatible phones will not need to do anything to access the combined 4G network layers as their phones will automatically select settings for the best performance.
“By deploying this aggregation of 4G carriers across the network we ensure a consistent experience of our services,” he said.
“Vodafone is committed to improving the mobile data experience for all of our customers, and Vodafone 4G+ is another step forward following on from the launch of low band LTE in metropolitan areas last year.”

Notes to editor
Carrier aggregation is used in LTE-Advanced (or 4G+) to combine spectrum bands to operate as one and in turn, increase the performance. More than two million devices are connected to the Vodafone 4G network. Vodafone 4G+ is now available to customers with compatible devices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. Note 4 and Note Edge are currently 4G+ compatible with more devices to be added in coming months.
