Vodafone customer care centre officially opened
A boost for Australian jobs and Australian customer service
Vodafone’s new customer care centre in the Hobart CBD was officially opened this morning by Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman and Vodafone Chief Executive Officer Inaki Berroeta.
By the end of the year more than a thousand staff will be based at the $12 million state-of-the-art call centre, with all staff from the company’s other customer care centre in the Hobart suburb of Kingston beginning to relocate in coming months.
Around 250 local workers were involved in the design, construction and fit out of the centre which boasts the best in international call centre design.
Vodafone Chief Executive Officer Inaki Berroeta said the building is evidence of the company’s commitment to industry best customer service and to Australian jobs.
“Customer care is at the very heart of our business,” Mr Berroeta said. “We’re really proud that our commitment to our customers means that we can also create exciting jobs in Tasmania and support local businesses.
“We’re also very proud to be one of the state’s biggest private employers, contributing tens of millions of dollars a year to the local economy.
“The customer care centre is Vodafone’s flagship, and a significant investment in the Tasmanian economy.”
As well as having world class staff facilities and customer care technology, the Vodafone centre is also one of the most environmentally friendly and energy efficient buildings in the state with a 4.5 Star NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) rating.
“The Hobart centre will play a central role in our delivery of innovative, industry-leading services to customers,” Mr Berroeta said. “Not only are we building a customer care centre, we’re also building diverse, highly skilled, high-tech jobs.
“We’re really grateful to our partners in this project – the Federal and Tasmanian governments – who have helped us create great jobs in Tasmania and great service for our customers.”
