Vodafone boosts 4G coverage in Queensland

Delivering more 4G coverage to the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns

Vodafone is ramping up its 4G mobile network in Queensland, including the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, ahead of an action packed year.

The telco has invested almost $6 million dollars to deliver additional 4G network coverage for Australian and international visitors who are expected to flock to the Sunshine State over the next month for the Commonwealth Games.

Vodafone Regional Manager for Queensland, Rhys Morgan, said the additional investment comes at an exciting time for the state.

“Vodafone already boasts a strong, reliable mobile network in Queensland, which goes from strength to strength thanks to the $115 million that has been invested across the state, and locally on the Gold Coast, between 2015 and 2017,” said Mr Morgan.

“The Commonwealth Games are just around the corner and one million-plus ticketed spectators are expected to attend events.  We’re now more ready than ever for a bumper 11 days of texting, calls and streaming action on our network.”

Vodafone is adding a number of new indoor and outdoor sites in and around the Gold Coast, including Carrara Stadium, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies.

The company is also leading the installation of a temporary Cell-on-Wheels (COW) site which will provide additional capacity to crowds gathering to watch the swimming and diving events at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

“Our network teams have performed upgrades to more than 70 key sites across the Gold Coast to provide additional capacity on our network. This will help deliver an excellent experience for Vodafone customers sending text and picture messages, or uploading to social media during high usage times,” said Mr Morgan.

“Vodafone customers from the Gold Coast to Brisbane and beyond, will be able to catch all the action from the Games on their favourite device. People can smoothly stream their favourite events or keep up with latest results on their mobile device whether they’re right outside Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast or anywhere across the nation where they’re enjoying Vodafone’s 4G network.”

The new permanent network upgrades will also provide more 4G coverage and capacity for upcoming sporting events on the Gold Coast including the Vodafone Gold Coast 600, which will take place in October.
