Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ and TP-Link VX420-G2H

How to manage internet and Wi-Fi settings.

You can manage the internet and Wi-Fi settings on your Vodafone Modem by first connecting to the device via Ethernet or Wi-Fi and logging into the dashboard.

You can access the dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser. You can also find your login details on the device label. This is either on the bottom or the back of your modem.

If you’re using the Wi-Fi Hub™, from the dashboard, click 'Wi-Fi' from the top menu. If you’re using the TP-Link VX420-G2H, click ‘Wireless’ in the left menu.

Common tasks with the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ and TP-Link VX420-G2H.

Perform a factory reset

You can manually reset the Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 back to its default settings by following these steps. Once you've completed the factory reset, you can rename the network (if you personalised it) allowing all devices to reconnect back to the renamed network.

  1. Turn on the Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0

    Make sure the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 is turned on.

  2. Push reset button

    Push reset button Use a ball point pen or a paper clip to push the reset button for 10 seconds and then release it. The reset button is located next to the DSL port.

  3. Wait 20 seconds

    After about 20 seconds, all the lights except for the power light will turn off.

  4. The Wi-Hub™ 3.0 will restart

    The Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 will restore to its initial configuration and will restart.

  5. Check the device label

    You can find the original Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 password and Wi-Fi credentials on the device label, which is underneath the modem.

Upgrade your Wi-Fi Hub firmware

Your Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 will update its firmware automatically. However, if there’s a problem you can also manually download the latest firmware update file and apply the update by following these steps:

Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub™ dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Management’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose the ‘Upgrade Firmware’ tab from the side menu and click ‘Select File’.
  3. Download the latest firmware update file.
  4. Select the firmware update file you’ve downloaded to begin the update.
Manage parental controls

Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub™ dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Advanced Setup’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose the ‘Parental Controls’ tab from the side menu.
  3. Click ‘Add’. In the pop-up menu, set the name, device, time and other details to control Wi-Fi access for your desired devices.
  4. Click ‘Save’.
Access the Wi-Fi Analyser
  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub™ dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Wi-Fi’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose the ‘Analyser’ tab from the side menu to see the results of the latest scan from your local area gateway.
Enable USB sharing

If you have a device such as a phone or laptop connected to the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ network (either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet), to enable USB sharing follow these steps:

Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub™ dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Management’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose ‘Access Control’ and click through to ‘Services Control’.
  3. Click ‘enable’ by the ‘SAMBA’ option and click ‘apply’. SAMBA will show as ‘ticked’ when it is enabled.
  4. Go to ‘Advanced Set Up’ and choose ‘Storage Service’.
  5. Click on ‘add’ and create your username and password.

 

You will now be able to see your files across your network if you browse to the location 192.168.1.1.

When you first logon to your networked drive you’ll be asked to provide your login credentials to access the USB drive. These are the credentials that you’ve made for the storage service.

To view USB devices currently inserted into your device follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub™ dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Settings’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose "USB."
Channel selection

By setting your modem to 'Auto Channel Selection' will ensure your modem is automatically looking for the best available channel.

Here are the steps to check that your modem is set to Auto Channel Section. It's best to use an ethernet cable, rather than WiFi, otherwise you may lose your connection when you apply the changes.

  1. Login

    Login to your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 by copying and pasting 192.168.1.1 into your browser.

  2. Wi-fi settings

    Navigate to the Wi-Fi settings.

  3. Channel selection

    Check your modem’s Wi-Fi is set to “Auto Channel Selection”.

  4. Restart if selected

    If this was already selected, restart your device.

  5. Turn on Auto Channel Selection

    If this wasn’t selected, then choose ‘Auto Channel Selection’ for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, then click apply the changes before restarting your device.

You can manually set the channels on your 2.4GHz signal, by following these steps.

  1. Go to dashboard

    If you are connecting via Wi-Fi, then change the Wi-Fi channel on your Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 by navigating to the modem’s dashboard page and selecting Wi-Fi tab.

  2. Select channels

    Under Setup, for the 2.4GHz band, select 1, 6, or 11 from the Channel drop-down.

  3. Apply

    Click Apply.

Perform a factory reset

Upgrade your Wi-Fi Hub firmware

Your Wi-Fi Hub will update its firmware automatically. However, if there’s a problem you can also manually download the latest firmware update file and apply the update by following these steps:

Wi-Fi Hub™

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Settings’ on the top menu.

  3. Download the latest firmware update file.
  4. Select the firmware update file you’ve downloaded to begin the update.

Wi-Fi Hub™ 2.0

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Management’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose the ‘Upgrade Firmware’ tab from the side menu and click ‘Select File’.
  3. Download the latest firmware update file.
  4. Select the firmware update file you’ve downloaded to begin the update.
Manage parental controls

Wi-Fi Hub™

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Internet’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose the ‘Parental Controls’ tab from the side menu.
  3. In the ‘Add Access Control Rule’ pop-up menu, set the rule name, device, time and other details to control Wi-Fi access for your desired devices.
  4. Click ‘Save’.

Wi-Fi Hub™ 2.0

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Advanced Setup’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose the ‘Parental Controls’ tab from the side menu.
  3. Click ‘Add’. In the pop-up menu, set the name, device, time and other details to control Wi-Fi access for your desired devices.
  4. Click ‘Save’.
Access the Wi-Fi Analyser
  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Wi-Fi’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose the ‘Analyser’ tab from the side menu to see the results of the latest scan from your local area gateway.
Enable USB sharing

If you have a device such as a phone or laptop connected to the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub network (either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet), to enable USB sharing follow these steps:

Wi-Fi Hub™

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Settings’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose ‘Content Sharing’
  3. Click ‘enable content sharing’ (button will show as green once enabled) and click ‘apply.’

Wi-Fi Hub™ 2.0

  1. Go to the Wi-Fi Hub dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser, login and click ‘Management’ on the top menu.
  2. Choose ‘Access Control’ and click through to ‘Services Control’.
  3. Click ‘enable’ by the ‘SAMBA’ option and click ‘apply’. SAMBA will show as ‘ticked’ when it is enabled.
  4. Go to ‘Advanced Set Up’ and choose ‘Storage Service’.
  5. Click on ‘add’ and create your username and password.

You will now be able to see your files across your network if you browse to the location 192.168.1.1.

Channel selection

  1. Login

  2. Wi-fi settings

    Navigate to the Wi-Fi settings.

  3. Channel selection

    Check your modem’s Wi-Fi is set to “Auto Channel Selection”.

  4. Restart if selected

    If this was already selected, restart your device.

  5. Turn on Auto Channel Selection

    If this wasn’t selected, then choose ‘Auto Channel Selection’ for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, then click apply the changes before restarting your device.

You can manually set the channels on your 2.4GHz signal, by following these steps.

  1. Go to dashboard

    If you are connecting via Wi-Fi, then change the Wi-Fi channel on your Wi-Fi Hub by navigating to the modem’s dashboard page and selecting Wi-Fi tab.

  2. Select channels

    Under Setup, for the 2.4GHz band, select 1, 6, or 11 from the Channel drop-down.

  3. Apply

    Click Apply.

Perform a factory reset

You can manually reset the TP-Link VX420-G2H back to its default settings by following these steps. Once you've completed the factory reset, you can rename the network (if you personalised it) allowing all devices to reconnect back to the renamed network. 

1.  Turn on the TP-Link modem

    Make sure the TP-Link VX420-G2H is turned on.

2. Push reset button

    The reset button is located above the on/off button. Use a ball point pen or a paper clip to push the reset button for 10 seconds and then release it. All lights will flash once.

3. The modem will restart

    The TP-Link VX420-G2H will restore to its initial configuration and will restart. This may take several minutes.

4. Check the device label

    You can find the original TP-Link VX420-G2H password and Wi-Fi credentials on the device label, which is underneath the modem.    

Manage parental controls

Parental Controls on the TP-Link VX420-G2H has two parts – Device Control and Content Control.

1.      Go to the dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser and log in.

2.      Choose the ‘Parental Controls’ tab from the side menu.

3.      Set the ‘Parental Controls’ toggle to ‘On’ and click ‘Add’.

·         Select ‘View Existing Devices’, then under ‘Operation’, click the plus icon (+) next to the devices you want to restrict.

·         Select the clock icon beside ‘Effective Time’ and click and drag to highlight the days and hours. Once done, click ‘OK’.

·         Enter a ‘Description’, then click ‘OK’.

4.      Set the ‘Content Restriction’ toggle to ‘On’.

·         If you want to restrict all access or only allow a few websites, select ‘Whitelist’ and click the plus icon (+) next to ‘Add a New Keyword’. Don’t add keywords if you want everything restricted.

·         If you only want to restrict a few websites, select ‘Blacklist’ and click the plus icon (+) next to ‘Add a New Keyword’.

5.      Click ‘Save’.

Channel selection

Setting your modem channel to 'Auto’ will ensure it automatically looks for the best available Wi-Fi channel.

1.      Login

        Go to the dashboard by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser and log in.

2.      Wireless settings

        Select ‘Advanced’ and choose the ‘Wireless’ tab, then ‘Wireless Settings’.

To check that your modem is set to Auto Channel Selection, follow the steps below. It’s best to use an ethernet cable rather than Wi-Fi, otherwise you might lose your connection when you apply the changes.

1.      Turn on Auto Channel Selection

        Set the ‘Band Steering’ toggle to ‘On’. This helps devices run faster by assigning them to the best wireless bands based on conditions like network demands.

You can manually set the channels on your Wi-Fi by following these steps:

·         Turn off Auto Channel Selection

            Set the ‘Band Steering’ toggle to ‘Off’.

·         Select channels

            Click ‘2.4GHz’ and change ‘Channel’ to 1, 6 or 11, then click ‘Save’.

            Click ‘5GHz’ and change ‘Channel’ to 36, 40, 44 or 48, then click ‘Save’.

Setting up your Wi-Fi Hub™ or TP-Link VX420-G2H and connecting to the nbn® network.

You can access 4G Back-up with the Vodafone Modem while you’re waiting for your nbn® service to be activated.

Based on your technology type, here are the steps to set up the modem and nbn® connection box (if required) to connect to the nbn® network.

Check your “Order Accepted” email to see what technology type you have. Alternatively, head to our nbn plans page and enter your address.

Fibre to the Node (FTTN)/Fibre to the Basement (FTTB)

Here are the steps to set up your Vodafone modem for FTTN or FTTB.

Here’s what you’ll need.

  • 1 x Vodafone modem
  • 1 x telephone cable
  • 1 x power adaptor
  • 1 x telephone wall socket
  • 1 x power outlet

Here are the steps.

  1. Connect the telephone cable from the DLS port on the modem to the telephone wall socket.
  2. Use the supplied power adapter to connect the modem into a power outlet.
  3. Turn on the modem and allow 20 minutes for it to boot up and configure automatically.
  4. Wait for the internet light on the modem to turn solid green.

You’re all set to connect your devices to the internet.

HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial)

Here are the steps to set up your Vodafone modem for HFC.

Here’s what you’ll need.

  • 1 x Vodafone modem
  • 1 x modem power adaptor
  • 1 x nbn® connection box
  • 1 x nbn® connection box power adaptor
  • 2 x power outlets
  • 1 x ethernet cable
  • 1 x coaxial cables
  • 1 x splitter or 1 coaxial wall plate

Here are the steps.

  1. Connect the coaxial cable from the white port on the nbn® connection box to the coaxial wall plate or splitter. A splitter gives you 2 cable connections to use both Pay TV and the nbn® connection box.
  2. Use the nbn® power adaptor to connect the nbn® connection box to a power outlet.
  3. Connect the ethernet cable from the WAN port on the modem to the UNI-D1 or 2.5G port on the nbn® connection box.
  4. Use the modem’s supplied power adaptor to connect to a power outlet.
  5. Turn on the modem and nbn® connection box and allow 20 minutes for it boot up and configure automatically.
  6. Wait for the internet light on the modem to turn solid green and 4 solid green lights on the nbn® connection box.

You’re all set to connect your devices to the internet.

 

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)

If you’ve joined Vodafone nbn from another provider, please try the port you were previously using first, otherwise attempt to connect using Port 1 first, before trying the others if this is unsuccessful.


Here’s what you’ll need.

  • 1 x Vodafone modem
  • 1 x nbn® connection box
  • 1 x power adaptors
  • 1 x ethernet cable
  • 1 x power outlets

Here are the steps.

Your nbn® connection box should be directly connected to your power outlet. Once that’s done, here’s how to set up your modem.

  1. Connect the ethernet cable from the WAN port on the modem to the nbn® connection box.
  2. Use the modem’s supplied power adapter to connect to a power outlet.
  3. Turn on the device and allow 20 minutes for it to boot up and configure automatically.
  4. Wait for the internet light on the modem to turn solid green.
  5. You’re all set to connect your devices to the internet.
FTTC (Fibre to the Curb)

Here are the steps to set up your Vodafone modem and nbn® connection box for FTTC.

Here’s what you’ll need.

  • 1 x Vodafone modem
  • 1 x modem power adaptor
  • 1 x  nbn® connection box
  • 1 x nbn® connection box power adaptor
  • 2 x power outlets
  • 1 x ethernet cable
  • 1 x telephone cable
  • 1 x telephone wall socket

Here are the steps.

  1. Connect the telephone cable from the grey port on the nbn® connection box to the telephone wall socket.
  2. Use the nbn® power adaptor to connect the nbn® connection box to a power outlet.
  3. Connect the ethernet cable from the WAN port on your modem to the yellow Gateway port on the nbn® connection box.
  4. Use the modem’s supplied power adaptor to connect to a power outlet.
  5. Turn on the modem and nbn® connection box and allow 20 minutes for it to boot up and configure automatically.
  6. Wait for the internet light on the modem to turn solid green and 4 solid blue lights on the nbn® connection box.

You’re all set to connect your devices to the internet.

Accessing 4G Backup with nbn®

While you’re waiting for Vodafone nbn® to be installed, you can use the complimentary 4G Backup feature on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ or TP-Link VX420-G2H to access our mobile network until your Vodafone nbn® service is activated – or for a maximum of 30 consecutive days, whichever occurs first. This means you won’t be without an internet connection prior to installation. The 4G Backup feature is automatically activated on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ or TP-Link VX420-G2H. 

If you’re unable to connect to Vodafone nbn® because of a fault on your line, you can also connect to our mobile network with the 4G Backup feature on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ or TP-Link VX420-G2H. This will give you access to the internet through our mobile network while the fault is resolved. If 4G Backup isn’t automatically activated when a fault occurs, unplug the ethernet cable from the WAN port.

You can use our coverage checker to see where mobile coverage is available. Max speeds are 20Mbps for downloads and 2Mbps for uploads, however actual speeds vary depending on your network coverage, content and location. Fair Use Policy at time of purchase applies. T&C apply.

Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ and TP-Link VX420-G2H  Troubleshooting

What do I do if my Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 has switched to 4G Backup?

If your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 has switched to 4G Backup and the ‘LTE’ or ‘4G’ light has turned on, the nbn® connection should automatically reconnect to the nbn® network when it becomes active again. You’ll know when the nbn® network is active when the ‘internet’ light is activated and the ‘LTE’ or ‘4G’ light has turned off.

If your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 does not switch back to the nbn® network, you may be able to manually switch it back. There may be an issue with the nbn® connection device or the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0. If you follow these steps and still haven’t reconnected to the nbn® network, please give us a call on 1300 801 122. Our team can then troubleshoot and arrange an nbn® technician if required.

nbn® connection device issue

This option is only needed if your technology type means you have an nbn® connection device in your home connected to the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 (including Fibre to the Premise, Fibre to the Curb, Hybrid Fibe Co-axial or Cable).

Check that all four lights on your nbn® connection device are on and not flashing. If any of the lights are off or flashing, follow these steps:

  1. Use a pin to hold down the ‘reset’ button on the back of the nbn® connection device for 10-15 seconds until the lights on the front of the nbn® connection device start flashing.
  2. Give the nbn® connection device up to 20 minutes to reconnect to the nbn® network.
  3. If all four lights are still not on, or the ‘LTE’ or ‘4G’ light on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 is on, follow the steps below.

Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 issue

Check that the ‘POWER’, ‘INTERNET’ and ‘WIFI’ lights on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 are all solid green and not flashing. If any of the lights are off/flashing/red, or the ‘LTE’ or ‘4G’ light is on, follow these steps:

  1. Check that all cables are connected properly. If you have FTTC, FTTP or HFC, make sure the ethernet cable is plugged into the red port labelled ‘WAN’ on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0. If you have FTTN or FTTB, make sure the nbn® telephone cable is plugged into the port labelled ‘DSL’ on your nbn® connection device.
  2. Perform a Power Cycle by turning off and unplugging the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0, waiting 30 seconds, then plugging the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 back into the power outlet and pressing the ‘power’ button on the side of the Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0.
  3. Give the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 up to 20 minutes to reconnect to the nbn® network.
  4. If any of the lights remain off/flashing/red, log into the dashboard for the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 and check if there’s a firmware update.

    If you’re unsure how to login, you can also perform a factory reset on the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 which will automatically install any updates.

Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 factory reset

If your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 is still connected to 4G Backup, you may want to perform a factory reset. Please be aware, performing a factory reset will restore any customization to the default option (including any Wi-Fi name or password changes), disconnect any saved devices and automatically install any new firmware updates (this may take up to 10 minutes). To perform a factory reset, follow these steps:

  1. Use a pin to hold down the ‘reset’ button on the back of the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ for 10 seconds until the lights on the front of the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ start flashing.
  2. Give the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 up to 20 minutes to reconnect to the nbn® network.
  3. If the ‘POWER’, ‘INTERNET’ and ‘WIFI’ lights on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 3.0 are still not solid green, or the ‘LTE’ or ‘4G’ light is on, give us a call on 1300 801 122.
What can I do if I’m experiencing slow connection speeds?

Connection speeds through the nbn® network will vary. There are many factors that affect the speed you'll receive.

If you're experiencing slower than usual connection speeds using your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™, here are some troubleshooting steps.

  1. Run a speed test

    Head to the Speedtest website on your device and follow the prompts. It's best to test your speed at different times during the day.

  2. Switch between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz signal

    5GHz will deliver faster speeds but has a shorter range than 2.4GHz. Try using the 2.4GHz signal on some devices and others on the 5GHz signal.

  3. Run a speed test again

    Head to the Speedtest website again and follow the prompts to see if the speed improves.

  4. Still experiencing slow speeds?

    There may be an issue with your connection to the nbn® network. Connect your computer to the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ or Compatible Modem with an Ethernet cable and run a speed test again using the Speedtest website. With the results, use live chat on this page and we can investigate.

What do I do if my Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 2.0 has switched to 4G Backup?

If your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ has switched to 4G Backup and the ‘3G/4G’ light has turned on, the nbn® connection should automatically reconnect to the nbn® network when it becomes active again. You’ll know when the nbn® network is active when the ‘internet’ light is activated and the ‘3G/4G’ light has turned off.

If your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ does not switch back to the nbn® network, you may be able to manually switch it back. There may be an issue with the nbn® connection device or the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™. If you follow these steps and still haven’t reconnected to the nbn® network, please give us a call on 1300 801 122. Our team can then troubleshoot and arrange an nbn® technician if required.

nbn® connection device issue

This option is only needed if your technology type means you have an nbn® connection device in your home connected to the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ (including Fibre to the Premise, Fibre to the Curb, Hybrid Fibe Co-axial or Cable).

Check that all four lights on your nbn® connection device are on and not flashing. If any of the lights are off or flashing, follow these steps:

  1. Use a pin to hold down the ‘reset’ button on the back of the nbn® connection device for 10-15 seconds until the lights on the front of the nbn® connection device start flashing.
  2. Give the nbn® connection device up to 20 minutes to reconnect to the nbn® network.
  3. . If all four lights are still not on, or the ‘3G/4G’ light on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ is on, follow the steps below.

Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 2.0 issue

Check that the ‘POWER’, ‘INTERNET’ and ‘WIFI’ lights on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ are all solid green and not flashing. If any of the lights are off/flashing/red, or the ‘3G/4G’ light is on, follow these steps:

  1. Check that all cables are connected properly. If you have FTTC, FTTP or HFC, make sure the ethernet cable is plugged into the red port labelled ‘WAN’ on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™. If you have FTTN or FTTB, make sure the nbn® telephone cable is plugged into the port labelled ‘DSL’ on your nbn® connection device.
  2. Perform a Power Cycle by turning off and unplugging the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™, waiting 30 seconds, then plugging the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ back into the power outlet and pressing the ‘power’ button on the back of the Wi-Fi Hub™.
  3. Give the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ up to 5 minutes to reconnect to the nbn® network.
  4. If any of the lights remain off/flashing/red, log into the dashboard for the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ and check if there’s a firmware update.

    If you’re unsure how to login, you can also perform a factory reset on the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ which will automatically install any updates.

Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ 2.0 factory reset

If your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ is still connected to 4G Backup, you may want to perform a factory reset. Please be aware, performing a factory reset will restore any customization to the default (including any Wi-Fi name or password changes), disconnect any saved devices and automatically install any new firmware updates (this may take up to 10 minutes). Follow these steps:

  1. Use a pin to hold down the ‘reset’ button on the back of the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ for 10-15 seconds until the lights on the front of the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ start flashing.
  2. Give the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ up to 5 minutes to reconnect to the nbn® network.
  3. If the ‘POWER’, ‘INTERNET’ and ‘WIFI’ lights on your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ are still not solid green, or the ‘3G/4G’ light is on, give us a call on 1300 801 122.
What can I do if I’m experiencing slow connection speeds?

Connection speeds through the nbn® network will vary. There are many factors that affect the speed you'll receive.

If you're experiencing slower than usual connection speeds using your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™, here are some troubleshooting steps.

  1. Run a speed test

    Head to the Speedtest website on your device and follow the prompts. It's best to test your speed at different times during the day.

  2. Switch between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz signal

    5GHz will deliver faster speeds but has a shorter range than 2.4GHz. Try using the 2.4GHz signal on some devices and others on the 5GHz signal.

  3. Run a speed test again

    Head to the Speedtest website again and follow the prompts to see if the speed improves.

  4. Still experiencing slow speeds?

    There may be an issue with your connection to the nbn® network. Connect your computer to the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ or Compatible Modem with an Ethernet cable and run a speed test again using the Speedtest website. With the results, use live chat on this page and we can investigate.

What do I do if my TP-Link VX420-G2H has switched to 4G Backup?

If your modem’s ‘4G’ light has turned on, the nbn® connection should automatically reconnect to the nbn® network when it becomes active again. You’ll know when the nbn® network is active when the ‘internet’ light is activated and the ‘4G’ light has turned off. 

If your TP-Link VX420-G2H does not switch back to the nbn® network, you may be able to manually switch it back. There may be an issue with the nbn® connection device or the modem. If you follow these steps and still haven’t reconnected to the nbn® network, please give us a call on 1300 801 122. Our team can then troubleshoot and arrange an nbn® technician if required.

nbn® connection box issue

This option is only needed if your technology type means you have an nbn® connection box in your home. This includes Fibre to the Premise (FTTP), Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) and HFC (Hybrid Fibre Co-axial or Cable) services.

For nbn® FTTP: Check that the POWER, OPTICAL, ALARM and UNI-D lights on the nbn® connection box are green or amber.

The UPDATE light should be off. If it’s green, the connection box is downloading an update. If it’s red, the connection box has failed to download an update, and you’ll need to contact us to resolve this with nbn®.

If the OPTICAL light is off, the connection box is disabled, and you’ll need to contact us to resolve this with nbn®.

 

For nbn® FTTC: Check that the LAN, DSL, POWER and CONNECTION lights on the nbn® connection box are blue or amber. A flashing LAN light is normal. It indicates there’s local network activity.

 

For nbn® HFC: Check that all lights on the nbn® connection box are green.

If the DOWNSTREAM or UPSTREAM is flashing, a firmware upgrade is in progress. This should take 10 minutes or less.

If the UNI-D1 or 2.5G port on the back of the nbn® connection box is amber, a device is plugged in with an older CAT5 ethernet cable, which may not support the full speed of your nbn® plan. We recommend switching to a CAT5e or CAT6 ethernet cable.

If any of the lights are off or red:

  • Visit our network status page to see if there are any known issues in your area.
  •  Locate your nbn® connection box and modem and ensure that they are connected correctly, with cables in good condition and plugged in securely.
  •  Turn off the electrical outlets for both the nbn® connection box and your modem and leave them off for at least 10 seconds.
  • Switch both outlets back on and wait for the box and modem lights to settle, then attempt to view a website If your nbn® connection box remain unlit or red after rebooting, please contact us for assistance.

 

TP-Link VX420-G2H issue

Check that the ‘POWER’, ‘INTERNET’ and ‘WIFI’ lights on your TP-Link VX420-G2H are all solid green and not flashing. If any of the lights are off/flashing/red, or the ‘4G’ light is on, follow these steps:

1.  Visit our network status page to see if there are any known issues in your area.

2  .Check that all cables are connected properly on your TP-Link VX420-G2H. If you have FTTC, FTTP or HFC, make sure the ethernet cable is plugged into the blue port labelled ‘WAN’. If you have FTTN or FTTB, make sure the telephone cable is plugged into the grey port labelled ‘DSL’.  The DSL ow WAN light should be green depending on your nbn® connection.

3.  Perform a Power Cycle by turning off and unplugging the TP-Link VX420-G2H, waiting 30 seconds, then plugging it back into the power outlet and pressing the ‘power’ button on the back of the modem

4.  Give the TP-Link VX420-G2H several minutes to reconnect to the nbn® network.

5.  If any of the lights remain off, log into the dashboard for the TP-Link VX420-G2H and check if there’s a firmware update. If you’re not sure how to login, you can also perform a factory reset on the TP-Link VX420-G2H which will automatically install any updates.

 

TP-Link VX420-G2H factory reset

If your TP-Link VX420-G2H is still connected to 4G Backup, you may want to perform a factory reset. 1. Use a ballpoint pen or paper clip to hold down the ‘reset’ button on the back of the TP-Link VX420-G2H for 10-15 seconds until the lights on the front of the modem flash once.

2. Give the TP-Link VX420-G2H up to 20 minutes to reconnect to the nbn® network.

3. If the modem’s  ‘POWER’, ‘INTERNET’ and ‘WIFI’ lights are still not solid green, or the ‘4G’ light is on, give us a call on 1300 801 122.
